Get to Know
Dr. Ivan Huynh

Dr. Ivan says that the most rewarding part of his job as a pediatric dentist in Lake St. Louis is ensuring that a child who is initially anxious about shots and dental treatment leaves his office with a positive experience, not even realizing they received any injections! He knows that by turning dental appointments into fun and educational opportunities, he can set a child up to have a strong relationship with oral care that will serve them well into adulthood.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Pediatric Dentist?

Going into college, Dr. Ivan knew he wanted to contribute to treating and reducing the prevalence of the most common and preventable chronic disease worldwide, which is tooth decay. After spending time shadowing a pediatric dentist and seeing how their relationship with their patients and families assured them as well as improve their health, he knew that pediatric dentistry was the field for him.
Today, his passion is educating both children and adults on the importance of good oral health and proper oral hygiene with an emphasis on prevention to minimize each person’s risk of developing cavities.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Ivan graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, and this was followed by earning his DMD at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry.
He went on to complete his specialty pediatric training at the University of Kentucky. Through his residency and private practice experience, Dr. Ivan has had the privilege of working with children with complex medical and dental conditions, including chromosomal disorders, heart abnormalities, cleft lip/palate, and developmental delay.
Dr. Ivan is now a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry as well as a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Ivan is an only child and second-generation immigrant—his parents came to the U.S. from Vietnam in the 80s. When he’s not looking after our little patients or spending time with friends and family, he likes to hike, play disc golf, ski, cook, play the piano, and enjoy board games.
