Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

At your child’s bi-annual checkup and cleaning, our team will start by collecting any necessary X-rays, and Dr. Ivan will conduct a thorough examination of your child’s teeth and gums, followed by a routine oral cancer screening. If Dr. Ivan notices any signs of oral health problems, like tooth decay, he will explain to you and your child what he has found and outline a treatment plan to address the issue so that it doesn’t have a chance to get bigger. We will also professionally clear away all plaque and tartar from your child’s teeth, as well as polish and floss them. This will help keep cavities away until the next time we see you both!

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is an important mineral when it comes to dental health because it has the ability to strengthen the outermost protective layer of teeth, called the enamel. Dental enamel is the first and most important layer of defense against problems like cavities and tooth infections, keeping harmful oral bacteria away from the more vulnerable internal structures of teeth. To help fortify enamel, we typically recommend a quick and painless fluoride treatment at the end of every child’s dental cleaning.

In addition to preventive fluoride treatments, Dr. Ivan also offers silver diamine fluoride. This is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment that our team can place over the early signs of decay to arrest the cavity on children’s teeth, as well as fortify the enamel to prevent the cavity from coming back. It’s also 100% painless and fast, making it excellent for young patients!

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are clear, shields that our team can place over molars to prevent food debris and plaque from building up in their grooves and crevices, causing cavities to form. The process is quick and painless—our team will brush a clear liquid atop the molars and cure (harden) it using UV light. After that, the sealants will continue protecting your child’s teeth for years to come!

Non-Nutritive Oral Habits

Thumb and pacifier-sucking are completely normal and healthy self-soothing habits that children develop as infants. However, as they get older, these habits can affect their dental development, putting them at a greater risk of developing orthodontic problems down the road. Dr. Ivan and our team can provide you with helpful tips and tricks to stop these non-nutritive habits as well as inform you about the many ways they can impact your child’s smile.
